CARLSBAD, California –Liam Hendriks of the Chicago White Sox won his second straight Mariano Rivera award on Wednesday, which is awarded to this year’s relief pitcher in the American League, and Josh Hader of Brewers won his third Trevor Hoffman award as the reliever of the year in the National League .
Hendriks was 8-3 and registered 38 saves on 44 occasions, with an earned average of 2.54. He also struck out 113 in 71 innings in what was his first season with the White Sox.
Hader, on the other hand, had a record of 4-2 and an average of 1.23 in his career. He made 34 saves on 35 occasions and struck out 102 strokes in 58 2/3 innings of work last season.
Hader also won the National League top reliever award in 2018 and 2019.
The poll took into account the performance of the regular season. The jury was composed of seven former successors: Rivera, Hoffman, Dennis Eckersley, Rollie Fingers, Lee Smith, John Franco and Billy Wagner.
