Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean AA Royals takes shape. The team’s board announced the names of the coaches and the operation of the mosquito calibers (11 U), pee-wee (13 U) and bantam (15 U) for the 2021 season.

For mosquitoes, Frédéric Truchon will take on the role of head coach. He will be supported by Alex Mercer and Mathis Blais. For peeeee, the task will fall to Éric Goulet, and he will be helped by Jean Gagnon. Finally, in bantam, Billy Bilodeau will have the role of head coach. Jean-Michel Tremblay and Jesse Mullen will act as assistants.

The Royals will also hold their first training sessions this weekend in Saint-Honoré, with the organization having to turn to the outdoor courts for these training sessions, which were planned indoors, due to the new sanitary measures.

We would like to thank Saint-Honoré, who makes it possible for us to use the property this weekend to start training our peewee and bantam teams. The municipality helped us get around very quickly, “said director of baseball sports studies at Arvida high school and AA Bantam head coach Billy Bilodeau.

This will be the debut for AA Royals this summer, a program that allows elite players in different categories to play more matches against tougher opponents.

“We wanted to let young people play as many games as possible to maximize development and give the dwarf AAA and the junior elite for years to come. If we want more players in the elite, we think it will start there, “explained Billy Bilodeau.

It is the increase in player mass that makes it possible to set up the Royals program from the mosquitoes. “It is part of our mandate with sports studies, to offer a development program based on mosquitoes. We have sports studio players who want to play for these teams, just like players from other parts of the region. We believe it will be good for the development of sports in the region, “added Bilodeau.

Different seasons

Each age group will operate differently this season. For bantam, players will play an entire season with 24 games in the Quebec AA Bantam League.

In the case of peewee, the AA team will play against the regional teams at the bantam level until the end of the classes. From the end of June, she will join the Quebec Peewee AA League to play between 12 and 16 matches against the Capitale-Nationale teams. They will also play the playoffs against Quebec.

On the mosquito side, 22 Mosquito A players will be selected for the AA team. Two teams of 11 players will be formed to play against the Quebec teams during a weekend of four games at the end of June. The rest of the season, the players will play on their A-team, but in the playoffs, the entire 22-player team will return to play against the Quebec teams and participate in the provinces. “The two teams of 11 will also play matches with each other during the season,” adds Billy Bilodeau.
