Via the Buccaneers: TAMPA BAY, Fla. — On Saturday, December 17th when the Buccaneers hosted the Dallas Cowboys, the Glazer Family Foundation and U.S. Marine Corps Reserve collected new, unwrapped toys for the annual “Toys for Tots” drive at Raymond James Stadium. Marines collected 14,500 toys and over $3,000 for underprivileged children throughout the Tampa Bay area. This is the 35th year that Buccaneers fans and the Marine Corps have united to bring smiles to the faces of children during the holiday season.
On Monday, December 19th, the Buccaneers surprised 30 families with Hess and Publix Supermarkets gift cards, toys, children’s bicycles, digital cameras, a shopping spree and more during the team’s fifth-annual “Day of Giving.” The families, selected by local nonprofit agencies, reported to One Buccaneer Place under the impression that they were receiving a tour of the team’s headquarters. Buccaneers players, including S Larry Asante, K Connor Barth, CB E.J. Biggers, QB Rudy Carpenter, T Demar Dotson, LB Adam Hayward, DT Gerald McCoy, WR Sammie Stroughter, LB Dekoda Watson, as well as Buccaneers cheerleaders and Captain Fear, revealed the true reason behind their visit during a surprise assembly in the team’s auditorium before bussing the group to a nearby retail store for the spending spree. On Thursday, December 22nd, the Buccaneers D-line came together to give back to those less fortunate for the holidays. With contributions from each member of the D-line, Buccaneers players Lamar Divens, Jovan Haye, Albert Haynesworth, Roy Miller, and Frank Okam visited Metropolitan Ministries where they surprised volunteers and staff with five truckloads of toys to assist the Ministries’ collection drive. After delivering the toys to the collection tent’s distribution center, the players presented families with new bicycles and toys to help with Christmas. Metropolitan Ministries is a faith-based nonprofit organization funded through the charitable support of the community. Since 1972, it has served poor, hungry, and homeless men, women and children in Tampa Bay. More than 150 families come to the Ministries’ Outreach & Prevention Center each day in need of food, clothing, or shelter assistance. To see more from Thursday’s donation, click here.
