LOS ANGELES — The Los Angeles Dodgers community outreach program - the Dodger Dream Foundation - recently unveiled two new baseball fields at the Ritchie Valens Recreation Center in Pacoima.
The Dreamfields serve as a place where Angeleno youth can safely enjoy the game of baseball. The Dodgers Dream Foundation provides educational, athletic and recreational opportunities for the youth of the Greater Los Angeles community. The Dodgers’ Dreamfields program is the Foundation’s signature initiative.
Along with the City of Los Angeles Department of Parks and Recreation, the DDF has dedicated a total of 15 Dreamfields in the Los Angeles area, nine of them in 2011 alone.
On hand for the dedication at the Ritchie Valens Recreation Center were Dodgers Vice President Howard Sunkin and former Dodgers Kenny Landreaux, Steve Yeager, Tommy Davis and Bobby Castillo.
“The new Dodgers Dreamfields at Ritchie Valens Park are a wonderful gift to the residents of Pacoima. The youth of Pacoima deserve first grade facilities on which to learn and improve their baseball skills,” said Anita L. DeFrantz, president of the LA84 Foundation, which aided in the field dedication.
The fields at the Ritchie Valens Recreation Center have new backstops and side fencing, dugout roofs, concrete dugout floors, regrading for drainage and playability, updated irrigation system and new turf, infield mix, booster pump for the irrigation system, solar- powered scoreboard and field signage.
