SAN DIEGO — On Wednesday night, San Diego, Calif. was home to the Poinsettia Bowl which hosted Louisiana Tech versus Texas Christian University. In what seemed to be Louisiana’s game through the first three, soon changed direction and the TCU Horned Frogs scored the winning touchdown to take the decision by a final of 31-24.
What fans in attendance and viewers may not have seen however, were Louisiana Tech’s senior linebacker Adrien Cole and junior wide receiver Quinton Patton each giving away their bowl gifts to kids. During Monday’s Poinsettia Bowl community service event in conjunction with the Make-A-Wish Foundation, the pair each gave away their $300 Best Buy gift card and Tourneau Poinsettia Bowl watch.
“They’re just material things,” Cole said. “They need it more than I do.”
“It was eye-opening,” Patton said of the Make-A-Wish event. “You can’t take anything for granted. I just did it, just out of the blue” he said of his decision to donate his bowl gift. “It’s all smiles. He’s happy, I’m happy, so it really doesn’t matter .”
The children were also treated to a pizza lunch, slide show, and the opportunity to get player’s autographs.
It is believed that this is the first time a player has made such a donation in the seven-year history of the Poinsettia Bowl.
We applaud Cole and Patton for their generous donations and congratulate them on a great season by awarding them with a Gold Star!
