Marshall, Texas – No. The 17th Centenary baseball team takes a break from conference play on Tuesday as the glowing men face the East Texas Baptist University Tigers in a non-conference game with the first pith set at 7pm at Woods Field.

The men (23-2) and the Tigers (16-9) meet for the third time this season. The Gents defeated the Tigers 7-4 back in February. 12 at home and then recorded a 13-5 victory in Marshall on March 23. Centenary improved to 9-0 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference game with a weekend sweep of the Dallas Crusaders at home while the ETBU dropped a Texas-Dallas road series in conference play.
Centenary enters Tuesday’s competition after winning a program record of 17 consecutive games following Saturday’s 8-4 victory at Shehee Stadium. The Gents, who are currently ranked No. 17 in the country in the latest 2021 D3baseball.com/NCBWA poll, tied the previous longest winning streak of 16 games on Friday with a double, winning 5-1 and 12- 5. Centenary is now perfectly 13-0 at home this season, 16-1 in the last 17 home games, and has swept five series in a row and owns the longest current winning series in the country this season, three better than Washington University (St. Louis), which has won 14 in a row.
The Gents, who are a spectacular 32-6 in their last 38 games, have not lost a game since falling 8-5 at Huntingdon back in February. 28. Maroon and White’s winning streak began with a three-game home sweep over Dubuque (March 4-6) and continued with a pair of two-game series over LeTourneau (March 12 and 13), then swept the Austin College men. on the road (March 19 – 20) and Schreiner last weekend at Shehee Stadium.
Centenary tied the previous longest winning record of 16 games set by the 2017 team that made the NCAA tournament and went 35-10 overall. The longest winning streak from a Centenary team in the Division 1 era (1978-2011) was 10 of the squad in 1990. The men are now only 12 victories away from matching the 2017 team’s season winner in total.
The men currently lead the conference in team batting, team throwing and team fielding, and dominate the various statistical categories. Centenary has beaten 16 home runs this season and hits .347 as a team with a percentage of 0.439 and is slugging .485. The men have scored a staggering 214 races this season (8.6 per game) and have scored 10 or more races 12 times this season and 13 or more six times.
Senior 2B Tyler Erickson (Houston, Texas) is currently number two in the conference with a stroke average of 0.427 and is in fifth place in the league in RBI with 26. Fellow senior 1B / P Preston Ludwick (Pflugerville, Texas) has an excellent season on the mound and in the field while leading SCAC with 31 RBI and is number two at the conference with a sparkling 1.98-ERA. Ludwick picked up his team and the conference-leading season’s win of the season on Friday in the men’s 5-1 win over Dallas, when he threw seven solid innings and allowed just one earned run and one hit with eight strikes. Ludwick is perfectly 6-0 on the season and has a complete shutout. He has allowed only 22 hits and nine earned races in 41 rounds with 44 K. Senior Conner Pocket (Lutcher, La.) And the second year Parker Primeaux (Lake Charles, La.) Ranks third and fourth in the ERA in the conference behind Ludwick. Poche is 4-0 this season with an ERA of 2.15. He has struck out 23 against just eight trips. Primeaux, the men’s specialist in late-inning, is impressively 2-1 with a 2.31 ERA and has a team and seven saves with conference management. He has 30 Ks this season.
