The Mets 11U team has achieved an achievement that is worth mentioning, as it is the original team that won the title and not a star team that consists of the best elements in the region. A weapon achievement that had not been seen for at least 20 years, emphasizes the president of the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean Baseball Association, Kévin Gauthier.

In the semi-final on Sunday, the Mets de Jonquière defeated 11U Bisons A-1 de Saint-Eustache 11-2 and then took top spots in the final 13-9 against Escaladeurs de La Pocatière. – I think this is the first time an original team has won the championship. It used to be a star team. This is the original team, which means that it also won the regional series here (to go to the provinces), he explains.

“It’s really surprising,” adds Kévin Gauthier. For my part, this is the first time I have seen an original team win the provinces. ”

Such an achievement should definitely do a little service for coaches and a great promotional tool for regional baseball. – I have not talked to the coaches (Mets), but they are absolutely very, very happy. They really won with their original team, and in addition they did not lose a match (in five duels) to the provinces. They even won two games with a gap of more than 10 points, “said President Gauthier.

18U (former dwarf) led by head coach Éric Bégin gathered the best players from the three 18U teams. “They had a perfect course with four wins, because they had a pass,” Gauthier notes. In the semifinals, 18U won against Estacades de la Mauricie 9-3 and then won the final against Terrebonne 9-6.

For President Gauthier, these great successes this weekend in A and last week in B show that baseball is healthy (in the region) because we at baseball level compare very, very well with other regions. Of the five championships that were there at the end of the week, we come back with two gold medals (11U and 18U). For the region, this is important if we compare with regions like the South Shore, Montreal, Quebec that are much larger than us. Winning two gold medals is excellent! ”

So it bodes well for next season. – We always believe that we are weaker than elsewhere. Now we are able to compete and even win. It will help motivate and engage other children in baseball. We knew we had a good chance. 13U and 15U, two star teams, reached the quarterfinals. We are cutting a good number everywhere, concluded President Gauthier, who could hardly have dreamed of such a good end to the season for regional baseball.
