APPLETON, Wis. (WFRV) – Miracle League of Fox Valley gives each child the opportunity to be in a team, but they need to raise money to function, so every year they hold an event where they raise thousands of dollars, so that each child gets an attempt to just be a child .

“It’s not a team, it’s a family,” said Chip Wood, an advertiser for the Miracle League of Fox Valley.

The Goodwill NCW program exists so that all children, regardless of ability level, can play baseball.

Kailee Vander Loop, league leader, said: “The Miracle League of the Fox Valley is a program in North-Central Wisconsin, and we are an organized baseball league for children ages 4-19 with either intellectual or physical disabilities.”

Both organizers and volunteers say that there is nothing like watching these children flourish when they get a chance.

“Seeing the kids the first fight and how everyone really tries, and they really do not want to go up to beat, and they are very nervous,” Wood added. “Compared to the end of the season where there’s just cheering and singing and people are just so happy to be there.”

“They get to get on the field, have their own field and be just like their peers who participate in a non-competitive sports league,” said Vander Loop. “Many of us have been part of the teams that are growing up, and I think it is important that all children with all abilities get that opportunity.”

Goodwill said they do their fundraising, so no family has to pay to play.

“All this money goes to run the program, which is great because our families are not asked to raise money,” said Vander Loop.

Goodwill officials say previous fundraisers for the program raised up to $ 10,000 dollars a year, but this year they have already surpassed that and raised $ 12,000 dollars – hoping to raise up to $ 4,000 or $ 5,000 more for the event itself.
