Verona High School Athletics Department took a moment to celebrate the five seniors who will continue their athletic careers in college.

Pierce Coppola is on his way to the mound of wood University of Florida. The left had committed to the University of Virginia in 2019, but was released from that school in early September 14 and announced that he will instead play for the NCAA Division I Gators.

Tea Verona Hillbillies baseball team also has a DI commitment in the pitcher Kyle McCaffrey, who is on his way to University of Albany. In his last full season on the mound in 2019, McCaffrey put out a 1.38 ERA over 39 innings and had 39 strikes.

Three VHS boys lacrosse players also signed their commitments on Tuesday. Zach Bucher is on his way to Connecticut College, which has a Division III men’s program. The long stick midfielder also played football for Verona.

Jack Lonsinger will bring his high scoring game to Bryant University Bulldogs, a DI program. Lonsinger scored 100 goals before the end of his second season for Verona.

Trevor Spinelli is committed to Drew University, and DIII lacrosse schools. Spinelli has played lacrosse in summer, autumn and winter club teams and was also part of VHS ‘winter track team.
