THIBODAUX, La. – Less than two weeks removed from the end of the campaign in 2021, Nicholls State University baseball coach Seth Thibodeaux resigned as red and gray skipper, according to an official announcement from Nicholls athletics department on Tuesday afternoon.

“I have seen the first-hand dedication Seth Thibodeaux has to this program and this university, and I wish him all the best as we work to move forward,” said Nicholls Director of Athletics Jonathan Terrell. Coach Thibodeaux is committed to the success of this program through many years of hard work and sacrifice, whether it was on the diamond, in the classroom or throughout society, and I have nothing but respect for him as we turn the page to this chapter on Nicholls Baseball. ”

The Colonels ended the 11th season under Thibodeaux earlier in May, ending the 2021 campaign with a 21-34 overall record along with a 16-24 mark in conference play. On the last Southland top list, Nicholls placed 12th out of 13 programs and missed the record season for the second year in a row.

Thibodeaux ends his period as head coach of the Colonel with an overall mark of 287-290 while composing a record of 149-165 in the Southland competition. In particular, the longtime head coach revitalized the program behind the 30-plus seasons back and forth in 2014 and 2015 – a first for Nicholls since the 1992-93 campaigns – as the red and gray pitching staffs were consistently ranked as one of the nation’s elite for the ERA. In addition, the incumbent colonel in the 2014 season, who only a year earlier only managed single-digit victories in league games, drove Thibodeaux to Southland Coach of the Year when Nicholls finished with the school’s best 21-9 mark in the SLC competition.

During Thibodeaux’s 11-year tenure, the Colonels advanced to the Southland Conference Tournament on four occasions, securing the second and third overall seeds in 2014 and 2015, respectively. The program has produced four All-Southland first-team selections and along with six MLB recipients. , not to mention two Southland Pitchers of the Year (Taylor Byrd, 2014; Justin Sinibaldi, 2015), a Relief Pitcher of the Year (Stuart Holmes, 2015) and a Newcomer of the Year (Kyle Reese, 2015).

Nicholls will immediately start a national search for a new head coach.
