Second minor league baseball team coming to Lexington

LEXINGTON, Ky. (LEX 18) – Lexington will soon have a new Minor League Baseball team.

The Atlantic League of Professional Baseball (ALPB) announced today that they have added a 10th team, referred to as the Kentucky Team (KY), for 2022. A name for the team, owned by Lexington-based Stands LLC, will be announced shortly.

The new team will play a full Atlantic League plan while sharing a ballpark defend ALPB Champions Lexington Legends. The two clubs will also play against each other in selected matches.

“One thing we’ve learned about this great city is that there’s room for more baseball in Lexington,” said Stands LLC CEO Andy Shea. “Our fans deserve high quality in all the matches in the league’s program.”

In an instant, Shea shares an afterthought.

“Besides,” he said, “a second Kentucky team doubles the chances of the Atlantic League trophy staying in Lexington for another year.”

The club will be listed on the league’s official season schedule for the 24th Championship Series when it is soon released.

The league completes its 2022 plan and plans to issue it by the end of this week.
