Former major league coach and scout Pierre Arsenault joins the Quebec Elite Junior Baseball League (LBJEQ). Anyone whose scout contract was not renewed by the Miami Marlins at the end of last season will serve as technical advisor.

In his new role, Arsenault will be able to give advice and discuss strategies with coaches, and thus share his knowledge acquired over 34 years with professional baseball.

“I am very happy that Rodger (Brulotte, President of LBJEQ) contacted me. It’s nice to be able to give back to the league that puts me on the “map”, explains the one who had been a catcher for the Ville Lasalle Cardinals in the Quebec Major Junior Baseball League, one of the ancestors of LBJEQ.

A former Chicago White Sox prospect, Arsenault, joined the Montreal Expos in 1987 to help with batting practices, and then received the Auxiliary Pen in 1990 and coordinated the Auxiliary Paddo until he left the team in 2002 to be named Marlin’s reliever. coach. .

“I was in the field with the Marlins for almost ten years, but when I had hip problems in 2011, they offered me a scout job. Unfortunately, my contract was not renewed this year, explains the man who worked from home in Pierrefonds last season. “Because of Covid, we were not allowed to travel last year, so everything was done at home on video. I admit that I enjoyed the experience of not having to travel. I had not spent a summer at home since 1984. “

Now 57 years old, Arsenault will stay in Quebec, and his position in LBJEQ is one of the ways to get there.

For Rodger Brulotte, the addition of Arsenault to the league staff will provide a wealth of experience to the circuit. “He will help the teams with different aspects, and already some coaches will meet him to prepare different things. With all his experience in baseball, he will be an active choice for all those involved in the field and will be able to act as a consultant for the development of our players and coaches, “he commented.
