Job Title: Baseball Projects Intern

Department: Baseball projects
Reports to: Assistant Director, Baseball Projects
Status: Part time, not excepted
Date: Must be available to start July 1, 2021. The internship lasts ~ 9 months. Priority is given to candidates who can start by 1 February 2021.

Main goal: The Baseball Projects team sits at the intersection of baseball analysis and broader baseball operations, and organizes information and processes across player development, player acquisitions, in-game strategy and more.

Key features:

  • Provide quantitative support for all aspects of player development, including next morning analysis, player goal setting and ad hoc studies.
  • Systematize advanced scouting processes across the major & minor league system.
  • Organize player pools and information to streamline player acquisition processes.

Education and experience:
Bachelor’s degree in statistics, computer science, mathematics or any other STEM field related to computer science preferred. Corresponding, relevant work will be considered instead of formal education on a case-by-case basis.

Competence, knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA):
Required:

  • Skill management of large datasets in R, SQL, Python and / or comparable languages
  • Demonstrated initiative as a team-oriented leader

Preferred:

  • Working knowledge of baseball analysis, strategy and trends
  • Blank application or other web development experience
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated, creative and innovative with a high degree of integrity and attention to detail
  • Experience building predictive models
  • Ability to communicate in Spanish

Job Title: Baseball Operations Intern

Department: Baseball operations
Reports to: Director, Baseball Operations
Status: Part time, not excepted
Date: Priority is given to candidates who can start by March 1, 2021. End date is the end of the 2021 season.

Main goal: Support the baseball operations department in research, administration and daily scouting operations.

Key features:

  • Provide support in all areas of pre-scouting, including game day assignments and preparation of the pre-report and pre-series meetings.
  • Support all areas of the scout department, including research, video clips and player evaluations, as well as preparation for amateur draft meetings.
  • Provide further statistical analysis, economic and financial research after allocation or as time allows.

Education and experience:
Bachelor’s degree preferred. Corresponding, relevant work will be considered instead of formal education on a case-by-case basis.

Competence, knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA):
Required:

  • Working knowledge of statistical baseball data and their application to scout information
  • Working knowledge of baseball strategy and current trends in management
  • Skills in Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint

Preferred:

  • Ability to communicate in Spanish
  • Programming skills (including SQL, R & Python, etc.)
  • Background in player evaluation
  • Background in video
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with proven ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Self-motivated with a high degree of integrity; takes personal responsibility for getting things done in a way that represents the organization positively and professionally
  • Demonstrated initiative; think creatively and take actions that create a positive result for the team
