Labor Day brings a busy but not quite full slate with a dozen games, mostly matinee stuff, so watch these lineups early. The schedule includes four of the National League’s best arms in action as Max Scherzer, Brandon woodruff, Zack Wheeler and Kevin Gausman Everyone wants to embellish their CV for the Cy Young Award.
The streaming equipment is lush for those who want to struggle a little on holiday before putting on the white shorts for next summer. Here are Monday’s popular players, all available in at least half of all ESPN leagues.
Pitching
Tarik Skubal (L), listed in 40% of ESPN leagues, Detroit Tigers on Pittsburgh Pirates: Skubals 18.5% K-BB% is a respectable 37th highest among throws that have collected at least 100 rounds. Among the five arms just above and five to just below Skubal’s K-BB%, however, the Tiger’s left wing has posted the second worst ERA as he has been generous with the long ball. Like a flyball pitcher, it is expected, but Skubal’s 19.5 HR / FB% is on the high side. On paper, Skubal should be able to slow down the home run speed against the least powerful team line-up in the league with a left on the ground.
Bailey Ober (R), 14%, Minnesota twins on Cleveland: Ober has registered a 2.81 ERA and 1.08 WHIP since the break, and waved a respectable 40 in the 41 2/3 rounds. A more recognizable name, or a cheerleader on a higher profile team will surely be listed in more leagues. Why not take advantage of and get an early boost on your pitching account? Cleveland checks in with the tenth lowest wOBA facing rights holders during the second half, waving a clip above average over this range.
TO.J. Alexy (R), 4%, Texas rangers on Los Angeles Angels: Alexy made his MLB debut last week in Arlington, limiting the Rockies to one hit over five pointless frames. His follow-up efforts are on the move in pitcher-friendly Angels Stadium, facing a line-up with the league’s worst wOBA versus right-handers.
Patrick Corbin (L), 41%, Washington citizens vs. New York Mets: Overall, it has been a disappointing campaign for the veteran on the left since Corbin has given four or more earned races in 15 of his 26 starts. However, Monday is positive, as the Mets have been one of the least productive teams against South Paws during the second half.
Bullpen:
It is risky to trust one Tampa Bay Rays relief as manager Kevin Cash likes to mix it up with the bull. That said, what Andrew Kittredge has done the latter is remarkable as he has collected four saves in four appearances since August 24, and waved 10 in 5 2/3 rounds over that span. Kittredge is available in 60% of ESPN leagues.

Meeting
Catcher - Tyler stephenson (R), 29%, Cincinnati Reds on Chicago Cubs (LHP Justin steele): Stephenson is involved in a track, hitting just 238 in the last week, but he has only waved once in his last 24 plate appearances, indicating that he has suffered a ball accident. Monday is a good opportunity to get back on track, stepping in the box against a rookie who has allowed five of his six homers to right swingers.
First Base - Nate Lowe (L), 33%, Texas Rangers and Los Angeles Angels (RHP) Jaime Barria): Yesterday, my colleague Derek Carty lurte that Lowe is a great game against Barria, who was originally scheduled to play on Sunday. Nothing has changed. Angels Stadium is one of the best arenas for left-wingers, and Barria is again ranked as one of the lowest starters on the dock.
Second base - Jonathan wants to (S), 35%, New York Mets at Washington Nationals (LHP Patrick Corbin): Villar clubbed his third homer last week on Sunday, but it is his race match in the spotlight on Monday when the Mets score a “10” in the stolen base division at Hitter Matchup Ratings.
Third base - Jeimer candelario (S), 40%, Detroit Tigers at Pittsburgh Pirates (RHP Bryse wilson): For most of the season, Candelario has been remarkably consistent, with few peaks and valleys. He is currently enjoying another heater, and has generated a 327 / .375 / .615 line since August 22nd.
Shortstop - Andres Gimenez (L), 16%, Cleveland vs. Minnesota Twins (RHP Bailey Ober): Back in the spring, Gimenez was a dormant choice for stolen bases. Granted, he’s nine-for-nine in the division this season, but a .595 OPS has limited playing time as Gimenez spent much of the summer with Triple-A Columbus. He is from the big club now and has swept three bags in the last week.
Corner Infield - Miguel Sano (R), 49%, Minnesota Twins at Cleveland (LHP Logan Allen): Despite showing reversed divisions for his career, Sano is in a good spot on Monday, facing a left-winger who has managed eight of his 10 homers allowed to strike to the right.
Middle Infield - Luis Garcia (L), 2%, Washington Nationals vs. New York Mets (RHP) Trevor Williams): Although it has not yet appeared in his numbers, Garcia shows signs of being comfortable at the plate. Since August 22, the 21-year-old infielder has cracked 13 percussion balls over 95 mph with nine over 100 mph. He has been credited with four hard outs during that period, reflecting four times his contact should have resulted in a hit. Williams has pitched well lately, but generally gives up hard contact.
Utmark - Austin Hays (R), 38%, Baltimore Orioles vs. Kansas City Royals (LHP Kris bubic): Hays carries a streak of 12 games in Monday’s competition. It did not take long before he got a hit, which made it a dozen that he took Corey clubs deep in the second half on Sunday. It can not take long to reach 13, as Bubic has given generous 100 strokes in 99 1/3 rounds this season.
Utmark - Rafael Ortega (L), 24%, Chicago Cubs vs. Cincinnati Reds (RHP Sonny gray): Through Saturday’s action, Ortega has quietly produced a .327 / .380 / .540 line from the lead in the second half. Granted, the Cubs offense lost most of its dunk by the trade deadline, but Ortega’s race and RBI are both around 80 on the season, which is playable for a streaming alternative, especially in points leagues.
Utmark - Darin Ruf (R), 3%, San Francisco Giants on Colorado Rockies (LHP Kyle Freeland): Monday is the first of six games the Giants have left with the Rockies in Coors Field, which is unusual for this time of season. Get ready to connect and play Ruf when a south paw is on the ground for the home team.
