A baseball field in Laval named in honor of Felipe Alou

The number 1 baseball field in the Parc du Moulin, in Saint-François, is now called the Felipe-Alou baseball field.

This change comes at the request of Éric Mailhot, president and treasurer of the baseball club Laval-Est, to the toponymy committee. The latter made its recommendation to the executive committee, after which the resolution was unanimously adopted by the municipal council on 8 September.

Felipe Alou is a former professional baseball player who has particularly distinguished himself with the San Francisco Giants and Atlanta Braves in Major League Baseball (MLB). He has been named All-Star three times. At the end of his career, he became the manager of the Montreal Expos.

He has had great success with the Quebec organization, and has collected the most victories (691) and directed matches (1408) in the history of licensing.

Mr. Alou also created a special connection to Laval during his time with Expos.

“He lived with his wife Lucie’s family, the Gagnon family of Saint-François,” explained Éric Morasse, municipal councilor for this district, during the September 8 meeting. Many still remember his visit to the neighborhood. A caring and generous person. ”

The former head of the Montreal training is now 86 years old.
