The post-season for Major League Baseball in 2021 is here, and the action starts on Tuesday night at Fenway Park. This year’s playoffs mark a return to a sense of normalcy for the sport. Gone are the neutral sites, the games without fans and the 16-layer format; the concepts of home field advantage and sales are back, and so is the field with 10 teams. For a reminder of how the rounds usually work, here’s a quick update:
- Wild Card Game: The winner goes on
- Division Series (two per league): Best-of-five series
- Championship Series: Best-of-seven series
- World Series: Best-of-seven series
The Yankees and Red Sox managed the final two spots in the playoffs on Sunday, averting the Blue Jays and Mariners and denying fans the chaos in a match 163 tiebreaker on Monday. The Giants also managed NL West on the final day of the regular season, sending the Dodgers to the NL Wild Card Game in the process.
