The season ends for the Park Rapids American Legion baseball team

W-DC opened the four-team tournament with a double elimination with a 12-2 victory in five rounds over Park Rapids on July 17. Post 212 stayed alive with a 13-1 victory in five rounds over Mora in an elimination match on July 17 before they were eliminated with a 9-3 loss to W-DC on July 18.

Lleyton Pettit threw a five-hit in leading W-DC to victory in the first game.

W-DC jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the first half when the first six bullets reached base on five trips and a single by Park Rapids starter Harley Wellman. Ethan Eischens took over for Wellman and gave up a new walk and a two-run single to Carson Kern.

Two-race singles by Evan Lunde and Kern and an RBI double by Josh Dykkoff pushed the lead to 11-0 in the third.

Park Rapids scored their lone races in the fourth when Jaxson Lund made a mistake, Ethan Eischens doubled and Wellman made a two-run single.

W-DC finished the scoring at the bottom of that inning.

Singles by Lund in the first and Wellman in the second and a double by Reed Sharp in the fifth made up the other hits for Post 212. Wellman and Eischens combined to issue nine rounds and nine hits in the loss. Pettit struck out six and was helped by two doubles.

Park Rapids put out 12 hits to defeat Mora in an elimination match.

A two-out single by Eischens, a walk to Nick Michaelson and an RBI single by Wellman gave Post 212 a 1-0 lead in the first.

In the third, Isaiah Olson led with a triple and scored on a foul. Singles by Eischens and Michaelson and another mistake pushed the Park Rapids lead to 4-1.

A three-base throw error and a beam led to Mora’s lone run at the bottom of the third.

Park Rapids put the game away with a nine-run fifth. Post 212 sent 14 hits on the record with singles by Eischens, Sawyer Torkelson, Hunter Harrison and Matt Johanning which started the round before Olson and Lund were hit by courses with two outs and Eischens, Michaelson and Torkelson followed with singles.

Eischens went 4 for 4, Michaelson went 2 for 3 and Torkelson went 2 for 4 to lead Park Rapid’s offense. Olson went the distance, allowing an unearned run on one hit and three trips with three strikes over five innings.

A five-run third inning helped W-DC eliminate Park Rapids in the second game between these two teams.

Park Rapids jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first when Olson reached a two-base throwing error and scored on a bundle single by Lund and a throwing error. Torkelson followed with a single when Lund scored on another throwing error.

W-DC broke out for four extra-based hits to claim a 5-2 lead in the third. Dykhoff led with a double and Payton Rondestvedt followed with a two-run homer. After a solo homer by Connor Davis, Chase Nordlund went and scored on a triple by Pettit, who scored on a foul.

In the fourth, a two-out double by Rondestvedt, an RBI single by Davis and two errors gave W-DC a 7-2 lead.

A lead double by Dykhoff, Rondestvedt’s RBI single and Nordlund’s RBI double made it 9-2 in the sixth before Park Rapids finished scoring on the seventh when Olson singled, advanced to third on a foul and scored on Lund’s founder.

Olson had a bundle single in the third while Torkelson and Johanning had singles in the fourth to account for Park Rapids’ second hit. Torkelson took the loss, allowing seven runs over five laps. Lund allowed two races in the sixth.

Dykhoff picked up the win, allowing two unearned runs on three hits while hitting nine over five innings. W-DC and Aitkin advance to the next round of the playoffs.

Park Rapids ended the season with a 1-10 record with six of those losses against W-DC.
