CLEAR WATER (WQOW) – Carson Park’s baseball stadium first opened in 1937, and some of the greatest players in baseball history have called it home. Now the city of Eau Claire wants to renovate the stadium to ensure that everyone can enjoy the action on the pitch.
“The city initially acknowledged that something had to be done with the first and third base bleachers. We wanted to replace it with theater-style seats on both sides,” said Mark Faanes, chairman of the Carson Park Baseball Stadium Renovation Project.
According to Faanes, the city of Eau Claire committed $ 1.5 million to the project. Those who use Carson Park’s baseball stadium are trying to raise $ 1.5 million. Faanes said there is about $ 700,000 left.
“150 to 175 matches or events are held at Carson Park each year, bringing 75,000 to 100,000 visitors each summer. Concessions and bathrooms are quite limited at the stadium, so we will add new bathrooms and concessions under each of these stands. “We want to add, and make more accessible, seats for our fans with mobility issues. All of us from the baseball community here in Eau Claire want to say that they are some of our most avid fans,” said Faanes.
On Tuesday, Charter Bank announced that it would donate $ 50,000 to the renovation fund.
“When we saw that Carson Park needed money, we knew it was one of Eau Claire’s crown jewels, so we thought we had to go up. There’s more than just baseball going on there and all we can do to support it and help our Future economic growth in Eau Claire that we feel is very important, says Paul Kohler, Charter Bank’s President and CEO.
“Charter Bank’s contribution is something we are very grateful for. Everyone who has lived in this community for any period knows that Charter has been a great supporter of society in many different ways. We are also grateful for the people who have contributed. with $ 10, or $ 100. All forms and sizes of contributions are welcome, says Faanes.
