Lázaro Blanco, the architect of Granma’s victory over Industriales.
Havana February 4 (RHC) Granma’s team beat Industriales on Wednesday. The game was contested. After the 2-1 victory over Industriales, Granma is the second team to advance to the semifinals of the baseball championship in Cuba.
In the first set, Industriales opened the scoring with a point against one of the best pitchers around, right-handed Lázaro Blanco.
Granma responded with a run in the same round thanks to a simple running score from second baseman Carlos Benítez, after Industriales starter Maykel Tylor gave two bases on balls early in the match, which led to him prematurely stepping out of the surface and giving way to Pavel Hernández.
The decisive race for the winners came in the third set with a double by receiver Iván Prieto, who found Benítez on the third pad. Benitez got there after striking a strike from the right field and then advancing on a ground ball from Guillermo Aviles.
Lazaro Blanco worked in seven full innings where he managed to control the opponent’s attack. The rest of the work was done by substitutes Kelvin Rodríguez, Luis Paradelo and Carlos Santana to seal the important success.
Granma joins Pinar del Río, winning against Sancti Spíritus in three matches with scores 9-7, 15-4 and 9-8, in the semifinals.
The duel between Santiago de Cuba and Las Tunas is still being postponed due to the presence of positive issues for Covid-19. When their league games were stopped, Santiago de Cuba had an advantage with a victory to zero. The Matanzas-Cienfuegos duel could not start for the same reason.
