The faculty of Nîmes signs a new, somewhat special agreement for its sports students. Softball and baseball come into force!

The president of UNîmes, Benoît Roig, knows the sport and its social assets well. “I must admit that I had to look at the differences between soft ball and baseball but I understood the nuance! We are committed to offering the best training for a better field of expertise, including for the Staps sector! It is important that they are directly linked to reality on the ground, but for that we must make links, make partnerships and enter into agreements.

The Staps branch, which was established in 2018 and delivered its first diplomas last year, is full of dynamism. “It is thanks to his students that the others returned after the Covid crisis. We saw them running in shorts, exercising, enjoying sports to create relationships. They have been noticed by the whole university and contribute greatly to its dynamism. I note the same dynamics as the union, which has doubled its membership in ten years. The association has been able to diversify and open up baseball 5 so our approach is logical because we are the only university that has American football!“continues President Roig. This convention marks the arrival of a diploma that can be translated into trust and celebrity for Unîmes.”It gives another arrow to the bow of our students.

For Olivier Skenadji, PE teacher in the Staps sector, “We teach sports events where students do everything. We succeed in supporting each other locally in the field, and our 16 students implemented this special day themselves. This is also how we fit into local sports, and the content of the agreement that was signed today is win / win. For 2023, we will position ourselves to organize the Occitanie Baseball Open.

Member of the Board of Directors of the Association, Patrick Millio, “I followed your work with baseball 5. I am a pure baseball player, I was skeptical, I had blinders, but by taking a step back and by moving on in certain areas of responsibility … I say to myself that it is a vector for interesting development both at the educational and technical level. What a find this sport that existed long in Latin America and in emerging countries. Even in my 60s I am a big fan! Developing this practice is crucial, we motivate each other and move forward together.

Nîme Baseball Club was rebuilt five years ago, the alligators, is also a chance for this convention and its follow-up over time. For the management of the club, “It’s a great thing for Nîmes to see these two disciplines a little different, and it’s a chance to get new players. You will be able to participate in projects, we are an exotic sport, but people who try this sport love it! We lack mentors and volunteers, get involved in this sport because there is a lot to do and little competition, it is also a chance for you!
