From the 2021 season, the organization of Laval tornadoes, consisting of five women’s baseball teams, will be managed and administered by the Laval Women’s Baseball Association.
The non-profit organization was formalized on 4 August. The purpose is to support, follow and offer specific programs for the development of female amateur baseball players in Laval.
“Seeing that our female athletes can flourish by playing our favorite sport, pushes us to innovate more and to ensure that our athletes can achieve their goals and excellence in the sport they love,” said Sébastien Michaud, director of coaches at Tornades de Laval, via press release.
A new interregional baseball league for women is also planned for next season.
The Quebec Women’s Baseball League (LBFQ) was originally planned for 2020 and is supported by the regions of Laval, Lanaudière, Lac St-Louis and Montreal. A total of eleven regions support this project.
“The enthusiasm for the league is very high, several regions have increased the need to participate in a form of exclusively women’s league under Baseball Quebec forums,” shares Patrice Duclos, regional representative for women’s baseball in Laval. [Elles] has realized the difficulty of developing women’s teams in mixed leagues, especially among our older athletes. ” (CR)
