(Washington) Power hitter Kyle Schwarber has reportedly reached a preliminary agreement for a $ 10 million one-year contract with the Washington Nationals, according to a person familiar with the negotiations.
This person confirmed the information to the Associated Press on condition of anonymity on Saturday since Schwarber must undergo a medical examination before completing the pact.
Schwarber had been available in the free agent market since last month, when the Chicago Cubs did not give him a contract offer. He helped them win the World Series in 2016, after missing most of the season with a left knee injury.
The 27-year-old outfielder struggled to strike last season, hitting just 0.188 and an average of 0.701 plus power for the Cubs.
