Louisville Baseball No. 2 in Perfect 25 preseason Top 25

The 2021 college baseball season continues to inch closer to the mid-February start, meaning national pre-season polls continue to emerge. The latest publication to release its first season is Perfect Game, which places Louisville at No. 2 in the top 25 released on Tuesday.

The Cardinals only run Florida in the rankings, with Texas Tech, UCLA and Ole Miss rounding out the top five. Vanderbilt, Miami, LSU, Virginia and UC Santa Barbara complete the top 10. A total of six ACC programs are present in Perfect Game’s preseason poll.

On Monday, Perfect Game published its group of precessions All-Americans and Louisville lead all programs with five awards. Third baseman Alex Binelas and loser Michael Kirian were both named the first team All-American team, while infielder / pitcher Jared Poland was the tool on the second team. Henry Davis was named a catcher on the third team, while Levi Usher was one of the outfielders on the third team.

Perfect Game is the second publication that releases the rankings before the season. Collegiate Baseball placed Louisville at No. 11, while listing four cardinals on its preseason teams. Binelas and Davis were named the second team of Collegiate Baseball last month, while Kirian and Usher were selected as third-team picks.

Louisville closed the pandemic-shorted 2020 season at 13-4 overall and ranked among the nation’s top five in several polls.

The cardinals will again have depth on the mound and in the field. During the autumn, UofL head coach Dan McDonnell highlighted the team’s depth in the field.

We have depth, we have talent, “McDonnell told the Cardinal Authority. Like last year, we had to endure a couple of early season injuries with (Lucas) Dunn and (Alex) Binelas, and we had Tim Borden and Jared Poland, and Ben Metzinger. We had boys who went straight in, and we did not miss a beat. We have that kind of depth and that kind of competition left. The two guys when you look at the middle of our field, look at Luke Brown who played midfield, and Lucas Dunn who played midfield as well as cards and others. It’s the two guys that if it were not for COVID, they would not wear the uniform this year, they would play pro ball.

“So anytime you bring back two players from the midfield, which means Luke Brown can play anywhere in the outfield and highlight in the midfield, and Lucas Dunn can play anywhere in the outfield and anywhere in the infield. As I think, the last We started at third base before the season stopped, so it’s nice to have the versatility, as the guys know they’re just competing to be one of the 10-11 hitters who’s in the mix every day. make them better. “

No schedule has been released, but the start of the college season is scheduled for February 19th.
