Local Round: Weeks-Shuler Helps Neumann Baseball Defeat Montgomery | News, sports, jobs

St. John Neumann scored five races in the last two innings to secure a 10-6 victory over Montgomery in high school baseball.

JerVal Weeks-Shuler went 3 for 4 with two RBIs, three runs scored and stole four bases. Jeff Hamilton went 2 for 4 with one RBI and Caleb Reddy was 2 for 5 with two RBI.

The Red Raiders were led by Kaide Drick, who went 1 for 4 with two races.

Ross Eyer threw three innings and struck out eight when Muncy cruised past Bucktail, 15-0, in just three innings. Max Rymsza went 2 for 3 with three RBI and Alex Maiorana went 3 for 3 with two RBI.

Mikey Sipps delivered a walk-off single at the bottom of the ninth inning to give Cowanesque Valley a 7-6 victory over Williamson. Williamson scored two races in the sixth inning to force extra innings, but Sipps delivered the Indians 12th here at night to end the game in the ninth.

Maddix Dalena homer and Dylan Moll and Nick Reeder had three hits each as Montoursville defeated St. Josephs 13-3 in five innings. The Warriors collected 13 hits and scored in each inning while improving to 4-0. Nick Reeder was 3 for 3 with three races and CJ Signor went 2 for 3 with 2 RBI.

Central Columbia struck out 12 hits and defeated Hughesville, 13-2. Luke Zeisloft went 3 for 5 with five RBI. Dylon Pequignot and Dylan Farnsworth each went for 1 for Hughesville.

Cayden Hess had two hits and Karter Peacock two RBI, but Mifflinburg took advantage of seven errors and defeated the Jersey Shore, 11-2. Owen Anderson added a double and scored a run for the Bulldogs (3-2).

• Montgomery put together a 13-run second inning to help attempt a 15-0 win over St. John Neumann in highball softball. Jenna Waring threw a three-inning no-hitter for the Red Raiders. Faith Persing and Kaylei Snyder both went 2 for 3 for Montgomery.

Rory Oden threw a three-hit shutout and Muncy scored eight runs in the seventh round to put the cap on a 17-0 win over Sullivan County. Nolah Moyer was 3 on 4 with home races, doubles and four races that were run in for the Indians, and Nicolette Johnson, Alaina Brelsford and and Oden all ran a couple of races for Muncy.

Cowanesque Valley cruised to a 21-0 win over Galeton. The Indians scored eight in the first, six in the second and seven in the third.

Makayla Vargeson and Makenzie Surine combined on the no-hitter.

• Central Mountain beat Jersey Shore, 4-1, in boys’ tennis. Ethan Hall won a 6-4, 6-0 victory on No. 1 singles for the Wildcats and Jackson Walker won on No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-4. Jersey Shores’ victory came in the No. 1 double where Ross Fuller and Connor Cornelius earned a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Leisher Gugino and Lucas Porter.

Muncy fell to Juniata, 5-0. Cruz Nagle and Rowan Revata lost to Emmett Hibbs and Zach Marshall, 6-4, 1-6, 10-6. Adam French beat Muncys Kaleb Meyer at No. 1 singles, 6-0, 6-3.

Wellsboro blanket Towanda, 5-0. Will Poirier won 6-2, 6-2 on No. 1 singles, Zach Singer won, 6-1, 6-0 on No. 2 singles and on No. 3 singles, Joe Doty picked up a 6-2, 6- 1 victory.

First-year player Kylie Segraves, a Williamsport graduate, blew up a school record that tied three doubles in Game One and added another in Game Two to key the softball team Lycoming College, who swept past FDU-Florham, 6-1 , in game one, and 4-2, in game two.

Segraves went 5 for 8 with four doubles during the afternoon, while her three doubles in the first game tied the school record held by Kristi Weaver (2016), who did it twice.

In the first game, the Warriors hit 12 hits while junior Angie King and novice Kylie Russell, a Jersey Shore graduate, combined for a three-hit in a 6-1 victory.

• Lycom’s men’s tennis team picked up a couple of singles victories, but also standard three games in a 7-2 loss to FDU-Florham. Wellsboro-educated Nate Redell picked up a 6-3, 6-2, No. 1 singles victory for the Warriors, and Montoursville-educated Casey Haas won, 6-4, 6-2, at No. 4 singles.

• Emily Wolfgang and Haley Seebold combined for Lycom’s three victories, but the Warriors lost to FDU-Florham, 6-3, in women’s tennis. Wolfgang picked up a 7-6, 6-1 win on No. 5 singles, and Seebold won, 6-1, 6-0, on No. 6 singles. The two then teamed up for an 8-4 victory in the No. 3 double.

• Mansfield University sprint football student-athletes Tim Banks, Dajuan Buie, Brandon Dejesus and Jayden Walker were named members of the 2021 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, which consists of college football players from all divisions.

Upcoming senior defense Allen Martin, offensive lineman Kyle Pierce and Trent Riggs were also named to the NFF Hampshire Honor Society in 2021.
