Public Health and the City of Saint-Jérôme will allow 250 supporters of the Cardinaux de Saint-Jérôme to fill the stands of Parc Melançon, from the opening game this Saturday, June 26, at 7 pm
On this occasion, Cascades de Shawinigan will be the visitors. The Reds will be in action again the next day, Sunday 27 June at 2 pm, during the visit of the Blue Sox of Thetford Mines.
With the last local meeting held on Saturday 14 August (19:00 Acton Vale), the Cardinals will play a condensed season schedule.
It is more compressed, given that we usually start the season on May 15, but this is two days after Saint-Jean-Baptiste (1 month and 10 days later). We want something to contend with on five Saturdays and almost every Sunday, except one, this summer. It takes a lot of effort, and it is very demanding for families to play on the weekends, but we will live with it. For ball lovers, we will have a sequence of 4 matches in eight days, between the end of July and the middle of August, at home ”, stressed François Rousseau, leader of the Jérôme formation.
“As for the 250 people allowed, it was the city itself that came to us with it. We have a good relationship with her. The health plan is precise. With the big platforms, everyone will be left behind. ”
The cardinals will be stronger at the mound, Rousseau believes. However, the heart of the formation lost hit runners.
“Our starting pitchers (Philippe Saad, Gabriel DeLisi and Tristan Beaudin) will make the difference. If they can give us five good innings, our relievers will be correct (P.-L. Meloche, A. Latreille, etc …). It is in the defense that I want to see an improvement. In the case of bats, we will play a small ball to move the runners forward. With the departures of Sacha Lagarde, Louis.-Philippe Pelletier, the rehabilitation of Samuel Savoie and Alexandre Massicotte, as well as the absence of J.-F. Garon, retained by the school, we have less power in the middle of the offensive role: our positions 2 to 5 are affected. ”
Fans will reconnect with a familiar face, like Jean-Luc Désormeaux, back with the team.
“Jean-Luc will act as assistant coach. He will coordinate what is going on on the ground. We will also trust Alexandre Major-Barrette, who among other things takes care of the help throwers. ”
Fans will also attend the debut of Sophien Antoine Boulet, with the formation of Parc Melançon.
Antoine will patrol the left field, while Jonathan Duforest will play on the right. We play two non-competitive matches, before the season. I would have liked more, but hey. We aim for a season record of 0.500. We will develop gradually. ”
In 2020, the Cardinals completed an abbreviated season third in the Louisville Slugger Division, with a record of 4 wins and 11 losses. Montreal finished with an identical record. Remember that the Sherbrooke Expos have been transferred to the Louisville Slugger section for the 2021 season.
