“I know Ryley’s high school coach (Shawn Schlechter) very well and he was highly recommended,” said Klunder. “We are pleased with his experience at the NIACC and with the University of Iowa.”
Kozisek was also a former baseball coach in high school, and served as head coach at Garner-Hayfield-Ventura High School in 2021 after serving as an assistant from 2018-20, and coaching the junior college in 2020 and freshmen in 2018-19. In 2021, he piloted the Cardinals to their first conference title in five seasons, posting a record of 21-5. He was named the best coach of the year in the Iowa Conference West.
Klunder was appointed head coach on August 3 after a very successful 16-year run as a coach at Waverly-Shell Rock High School. He guided the Go-Hawks to their fourth state tournament last year.
The Dutch come from a 14-27 season in a pandemic change campaign, but were 24-16 in 2019 and took the conference championship in 2012. The college recently completed a $ 18 million renovation and addition to PH Kuyper Gymnasium.
