Former Ironwood Ridge standout Jake angel is the only current player to be named to the Dixie State All-Decade Baseball Team (2011-20).

Engel beat .385 with 14 home runs and 52 RBIs in 2019 to earn first-team All-RMAC, first-team all-South Central Region, and D2CCA and Rawling’s first-team All-America awards, along with third-team ABCA / Rawling’s All-America braces.

According to a release, Engel started a solid start to the 2020 season, where he hit. 458 with six homers and 26 RBI in 16 games before the season ended abruptly due to the COVID-19 pandemic. In addition, he became the first player in the program’s NCAA era to hit in 20-straight games and enter the 2021 campaign with a 21-hit move. On its way into its second senior season, Engel is currently ranked fifth in career games (.355), fourth in slugging percentage (.620), fourth in home runs (22), eighth in RBI (108), seventh overall in bases (229) and 11th in races (102).

The list will be updated throughout the year in an effort to recognize all former local prep stars who have achieved either academic and / or athletic awards at the next level. Andy Morales was recognized by the AIA as the top high school reporter in 2014, he was awarded the Ray McNally Prize in 2017, an AZ AZ News News Prize winner in 2019, and he has been the youth, high school and college coach for over 30 years . He was the first in Arizona to write about high school beach volleyball and high school girls wrestling. His own children have won several state high school championships and were named all-state teams. Competing in hockey, basketball, baseball and track & field in high school, his unique perspective can only be found here and at Andy is the Southern Arizona voting member of the Ed Doherty Award, and recognizes the best football player in Arizona, and he was named Local hero by Tucson Weekly for 2016.
