Monsignor Farrell, the island’s No. 2 seed, and St. Joseph by-the-Sea, the district’s third seed, open the CHSAA baseball playoffs on Monday with qualifying games.
The two teams hope to make it to Thursday’s start of the CHSAA quarterfinals double elimination tournament where island champion St. Peter has already qualified, the result of the 6-5 victory over Farrell on Saturday in a tiebreaker that determined the Icelandic champion.
The Lions host the Regis at 1pm in a possible double header on the South Shore Babe Ruth League field. Since the Regis is the No. 3 seed of the Bronx-Manhattan, it must beat the Lions twice to advance. If the Lions win a match, they advance to Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Viking must travel to the Bronx for a start at 13:00 against All Hallows, the number 2 seed from the Bronx-Manhattan division. Sea must win twice to earn a place in Thursday’s tournament.
