Alma – After three years of repair work, the new baseball field at Cristal d’Alma Park was inaugurated on Sunday 15 August.
The Alma Minor Baseball (BMA) organization held some celebrations to celebrate the opening of this new field.
“This is the culmination of a lot of work to develop baseball in Alma. Updating this country, which was neglected many years ago, will make it possible to find young people from this sector. It shows that baseball is in good health, “said BMA President Nicolas Dufour.
Due to the lack of available fields in Alma, and with an increase in the number of baseball registrations, the city of Alma and BMA had to find a solution so that everyone could play.
“There had already been a lot in Cristal Park, but it had been closed due to complaints from residents. But the basics were already there, it was, among other things, a cabin with markers and shelters for the players. We just put everything back in good condition, in addition to adding a ball plug so as not to hit the balls on the surrounding houses. “
Although BMA started using Cristal Park three years ago to hold some exercises, it is this year that this new ground began to be used to 100% of its capacity.
“We are here four evenings a week, whether it is training or games. Almost all U-11 category activities are now held here. “
It must be said that baseball in Alma is in good health. This year alone, BMA has about sixty more players than last year. There are a total of five more teams.
In addition, Alma is the only city in the region that has a 100% female team, while BMA has 25 players in its ranks.
“Year after year, we continue to have more and more members, and I do not think it will decrease. The problem is that we are still out of land, even with the addition of the Parc du Cristal. We are currently committed to holding some of our activities in Saint-Bruno, which is not ideal. With the city, we will look into the matter to find a solution. But it’s a nice problem to have. “
