Full release

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (EMUEagles.com) – Eastern Michigan University baseball student-athlete Mike Monahan (Saline, Mich.-Saline) was named an academic committee of all districts, the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced today, July 1st.

Senior earned the honor for the first time in his career, becoming the first player to be recognized for the EMU Baseball Program Award since Zachary Owings in 2019.

Monahan broke out on stage as the baseball team’s designated hitter in 2021 and set career heights in almost every category over his 26 games. He added an impressive 3.74 GPA to the classroom on his way to achieving a degree in business management. In 22 starts, he made 28 hits, of which 26 were in May, the most monthly hits for an eagle since 2019, 14 RBIs, a 451 slugging percentage and a 386 percent at the base. Saltwater, Mich. native also put together a team-best match for 13 games this season. The senior put together his best series of the season at St. Bonaventure, May 1, a total of seven hits and five RBIs, including going 4-for-6 in game one. Monahan also launched his first home run against Toledo on May 11.

2020-21 The Academic All-District® Baseball Team, selected by CoSIDA, recognizes the country’s best student performers for their combined performances on the court and in the classroom. The CoSIDA Academic All-America® program recognizes separate honeycombs in four divisions – NCAA Division I, NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III and NAIA.

First-team Academic All-District® awards go to the CoSIDA Academic All-America® nerd. First-, second-, and third-tier Academic All-America® awards will be announced in late July.
