Baseball: Huskies who want to play some ball

“661 days have passed,” Culver said. “We’m pretty pissed.”

Yes, it’s been a while since Huskies baseball has been played at Wade Stadium, some would say too long after the 2020 season was wiped out due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but that may make the understanding of hot nights at the ballpark, abrupt into one hand, beer in the other, all the more special this summer.

“I’m as excited as the players,” Huskies manager Marcus Pointer said. “It’s been a long time coming. We put a lot of work into building the team all year round, and now everything comes together. I’m just glad these guys are back on the field playing baseball. These guys could not have been more excited. Some of them did not even get their college seasons. ”

And Pointer is talking about this year. Forget the last year. The point: it’s been a while.

“They’re keen to get out here and start playing,” Pointer said.

Pointer coaches at Skyline College in San Bruno, California, where his team only came in eight games this season. He said it was an easy decision to return to Duluth.

“I love this,” Pointer said. “It’s a great organization. There are good people around here who are very supportive. I could not give it up. ”
