Elijah Dunham, OF, Yankees - In recent days, the Yankees contingent of position players has changed to make its mark on the AFL. Austin wells has been based on a fantastic clip. Andres Chaparro put together a four-hit day with a home as well. Wednesday was Dunham’s turn. The Indiana alumnus was signed by the Yankees after a five-round draft in 2020 and put together an excellent first season as a pro. Against Peoria, Dunham went 3-for-4 with their first two home races in the AFL. His first explosion came from a former Yankees prospect Roansy Contreras, which broke out in a big way in 2021 and got its big league debut.
Owen white, RHP, Rangers - Through two weeks and changes, the AFL has proven to be even more of a hit league than usual. Not for White, who has cut through the competition with confidence through three starts. On Wednesday against Peoria, the right-hander - who made his professional debut in 2021 after years of injuries that led to the pandemic - got five over five three-point shutout rounds. For the season, White has allowed two runs on eight hits over 15 innings while hitting 14 and going five.
Jackson cluff, SS, nationals - Quiet and calm, Cluff has had an excellent AFL. The 2019 sixth-round out of Brigham Young collected two more hits on Wednesday, including his third double of the fall, stole a base and pulled a turn. Cluff’s 2021 season was limited by injuries to just 159 strikers used mostly at Double-A Harrisburg, and he produced a PPP of just 595 for the season. With Surprise, Cluff is 9 to 23 with 11 races, including three doubles and one homer.
JJ Bleday, OF, Marlins - The Bleday renaissance continues in the Fall League. After a brutal year at Double-A Pensacola, Bleday is scorching hot under the desert sun. On Wednesday, Bleday went 3-on-5 and added their second home run in the last three days. He has worked hard this season to make mechanical adjustments that will allow him to make more of an impression against hit places, and it seems that the changes are yielding results in the AFL.
Nelson velazquez, OF, unger - Velazquez and JJ Bleday forms a formidable duo in the middle of Mesa’s line-up. The pair went back to back with a home run on Wednesday as part of Mesa’s 12-0 route by Glendale. For the AFL, Velazquez now beats .415 / .520 / .732 with four doubles, three homers, nine RBIs and nine times.
Ronny mauricio, SS, Mets - It’s not just the Arizona Fall League in today’s BAPR. The Dominican Winter League started on Wednesday, and the Mets’ best infield prospect made sure it started with a bang. Mauricio, who shared the 2021 season between High-A and Double-A, went deep in his first fight with Licey. Mauricio hit 20 home runs during the regular season, and showed a tempting power potential, especially if he can sharpen his plate discipline further.
