A young driver in his early twenties was arrested for impaired driving after an accident in the car park of the École secondaire de Rivière-du-Loup on rue Saint-Pierre, shortly after midnight on Sunday morning.
The Sûreté du Québec (SQ) was summoned by a witness who saw the person in question leave a bar on rue Lafontaine while intoxicated. – The person would have refused, on the advice of people on the spot, not to take the car. She left quickly, Sergeant Audrey-Anne Bilodeau, a spokeswoman for SQ, explained.
When police arrived around 12:08 p.m., they noticed that the car had hit the fence in high school and that the driver had completed his race by hitting the stadium on the baseball field. The young man was alone in the car and suffered minor injuries.
“A blood sample was taken, but we can not confirm if the rate was above the permitted limit at the moment,” the spokesman revealed. The latter added that the driver was still arrested after the explanations of a witness at the scene, who accompanied him to the scene of the accident and told the police that his driving was dangerous.
