La Pocatière will have a second baseball field, specially funded by the foundation Jays Care of the Toronto Blue Jays.
The approximately $ 300,000 project is expected to be completed in the summer of 2022.
$ 122,000 comes from the foundation’s grant, $ 50,000 from the Kamouraska-Rivière-du-Loup school service center and the rest from La Pocatière municipality.
The new country will be very close to the first, in the La Pocatière upper secondary sector. It must respond to the growing popularity of smaller baseball in the municipality, according to Martine Thériault, president of La Pocatière smaller baseball association.
“Basically, that was what we wanted to have another country. A country that would meet the growing demands of the association. Our registrations are constantly increasing, so it took us another reason», Indicates Mrs Thériault.
The new field will also make it possible for the local association to organize larger tournaments, young athletes to train more often and the recruitment of more new players.
La Pocatière is one of 14 Canadian communities that will receive support from the foundation Jays Care this year for the construction of a field that promotes access to baseball for all young people.
One of the goals of the program is to ensure that more girls, Aboriginal youth and young people with disabilities can play baseball.
