A report from the Toponymy Committee in the City of Victoriaville, presented at the last meeting of the municipal council, suggests designating the baseball field in the Parc de la Rivière (behind the Saint-Christophe school) in the name of Paul-Émile Michel.
The man in question was the owner of one of the largest transport companies in Center-du-Québec from the 1960s to the 1980s, as explained by the clerk Me Yves Arcand. He was also very involved in the sports community in the municipality and participated in the influence from Victoriaville. It has also contributed to the financing of several sports teams and activities (by offering equipment and transport to various organizations). In addition, Michel was very involved in the Parc de la Rivière, which plays, but also by encouraging the provision of lighting to allow activities to continue in the evening. He died on January 15, 1989.
“Who, at my age, does not know Michel Transports? Asked Mayor André Bellavance before adding that he deserved his name given to the baseball field. “He even gave jobs to young athletes from here to stay in the region, especially Gilbert Perreault,” the mayor recalled.
