2021 Fantasy Baseball: Week 22 Hitting Planner

If you’re in the playoffs of your redraft league or just need clutch weekly fantasy games for DFS, there’s no easier start to planning for offensive players than this. Your go-to for matchup hunting for MLB hitters in the coming week is here.

Welcome back to Meeting planner, a matchup-focused look into hitters and lineups you can Pick (start and confidence given the plan for the coming week) or Boring (Consider sitting, avoiding the waiver thread due to a tough upcoming week of matchups). All of the players mentioned will usually be around the threshold for either ownership or starting / sitting for your fantasy team.

As usual, I would like to point out the teams and similar players with noticeably bad matches ( Borings) and noticeably good matchings (the Picks). Let’s get started with week 22 (Monday 6 August – Sunday 12 September). For each team we evaluate, we will note the opponents for the week in italics, including the number of times they play. For this week, the statistics mentioned from the season until now will be updated from the end of the matches on Friday night.

What ?! Your season long fantasy baseball league does not use Fantrax? Unthinkable! check out everything Fantrax has to offer and I’m sure you’ll be thinking.

Fades: Stay away

2021 Fantasy Baseball: Week 22 Hitting Planner

New York Yankees

Opponents: TOR (4), NYM (3)

The Yankees, who have several fantasy-relevant players in their selection, including the return of Gleyber Torres, often appears in the stroke planner. Sometimes grabbing them on the upside is given the power and opportunities at home. This week, we flip through the script and avoid the striking Yankee hits.

The Yankees start the week at home where they have recently been productive offensively, but they must face a formidable Blue Jays starting rotation that will likely send Hyun-jin ryu, Steven matz, Alek manoah, and José Berríos to the mound, most of whom have already developed a track record of success against the Yankees this season.

Appetizer 2021 performance vs. NYY
Hyun-jin ryu 3 starts, 2.50 ERA, 1,056 WHIP, 7.5 K / 9
Steven matz 1 start, 1.35 ERA, 0.900 WHIP, 13.5 K / 9
Alek manoah 1 start, 0.00 ERA, 0.667 WHIP, 10.5 K / 9

The Yankees then head to the Queens to face the Mets who, despite the shortage Jacob deGrom, has been an above-average pitching staff for the past month. The Yankees also perform worse offensively on the road than they do at home, making the entire 7-game slate this week an uphill for opportunities to start on the edges of the team. Start Aaron judge certainly as the most elite hitter on the team. But do not look at any other player in that series as invincible or must be started in weekly formats.

Los Angeles Angels

Opponents: TEX (1), SDP (2), HOU (3)

The angels are the definition of inconsistency in crime, especially with Anthony Rendon out for the season and Mike the trout still not back on the field. The upcoming six-game slate starts for them in a somewhat encouraging way as they face a Rangers pitching staff that has consistently been one of the worst pitching staffs in baseball in 2021. However, Texas will start rookie. AJ Alexy, who was solid in his first career start, and threw 5 closing rounds and gave only one hit.

For the angels, the rest of the week is just massive downhill. They will play a quick interleague set against Padres. Although San Diego has recently had its disappointments on the mound, they have two starters for the series, Blake fast and Yu darvish, still has the All-Star upside, and in August Snell was fantastic, releasing one 1.72 ERA, 30.2% K-BB% and 13.25 K / 9 during the month.

To complete the series, the Angels will face Astros, a top 5 pitcher pitcher during the final month of ERA and xFIP. Houston will throw his best start pitching out to the mound in the series, with Framber Valdez, Luis García, and Lance McCullers Jr..

Bench everyone if your league depth allows it – except MVP, Shohei Ohtani. I see better that you do not assess the bench for him.

Miami Marlins

Opponents: NYM (3), ATL (3)

We have already discussed the Met’s ability to play at a level above average despite being depleted at the top. What about the Braves, who rank first in baseball the last month in xFIP and SIERA as pitcher? Also submits his two best Charlie morton and Max Fried to complete the series, the Marlins are on a tough road trip in the three games. The Marlins’ .669 OPS and 82 wRC + on the road over the last month both are ranked # 24 in MLB in that period.

There is no one in the Marlins series who deserves to be an autostart given the circumstances of the coming week, not even the power-hitter first baseman Jesus Aguilar. Only use that place on him if the depth of the choices at the position is slim for you.

Picks: Buy-In

2021 Fantasy Baseball: Week 22 Hitting Planner

Kansas City Royals

Opponents: BAL (4), MIN (3)

Quietly one of the most impressive offensive seasons in the generation of a catcher, Salvador Perez has exceeded the 40-mark in the home race in 2021, and now he should get some help with the general team line-up for seven straight games in the coming week.

The Orioles are the planner’s best friend, as they continue to be the worst statistical pitching staffs in baseball. Four fights against this clown show – four! To end the week, three more matches against the twins, who rank the bottom 10 in MLB as pitchers in ERA, xFIP and SIERA in the last month. Start the lifeguard on catcher, Pérez, of course. But also go back to credible Whit Merrifield, the reliable basic ability to Carlos Santana, and in deep leagues, put flyers on Nicky lopez, Andrew Benintendi, Michael and Taylor, and Hunter dose depending on the format.

Atlanta braves

Opponents: WSH (3), MIA (3)

This is clearly a Braves thank you post – not my fault they deserve it. This lineup rakes even without Ronald Acuña Jr. and yours .803 OPS and 112 wRC + at home both rank top 5 in the MLB in that period. Now they get six games at home against struggling pitching staffs. Nationals and Marlins are both among the top 10 pitching losses in MLB in ERA, xFIP, SIERA and K-BB% in the last month.

Do not just relax with the superstars of your imagination Freddie freeman, Ozzie Albies, and Austin Riley. Be sure to fire up Dansby Swanson and Adam duvall. In deep leagues where you need power, do not forget Jorge Soler, Joc pederson, and Eddie Rosario.

San Francisco Giants

Opponents: COL (3), CHC (3)

It is well known how good the Giants are at this point – they have let the game prove that they are a good team in all aspects of the game. There is not too much explanation needed for this. The Rockies and Cubs both rank mediocre to poor in each pitching statistic in the book over the past month. The series against the Rockies will be held in hitter’s paradise, Coors Field. Turn off all Giants bats, as they’re going to have a giant Week All-Star acquisition Kris bryant, cornerstone franchise Brandon Crawford, power-hitter Mike Yastrzemski, future Hall-of-Famer Buster bags, underestimated hard-hitters Brandon belt and LaMonte Wade Jr, and in deep leagues a shot at Darin Ruf.
