2021 Fantasy Baseball: Week 19 Hitting Planner

Welcome back to Meeting planner, a matchup-focused look at hitters and lineups you can Pick (start and confidence given the schedule for the coming week) or Boring (Consider sitting, avoiding the waiver thread due to a tough upcoming week of matchups). All of the players mentioned will usually be around the threshold for either ownership or starting / sitting for your fantasy team.

As usual, I would like to point out the teams and similar players with noticeably bad matches ( Borings) and noticeably good matchings (the Picks). Let’s get started with week 19 (Monday 16 August – Sunday 22 August). For each team we evaluate, we will note the opponents for the week in italics, including the number of times they play. For this week, the statistics mentioned from the season until now will be updated from the end of the matches on Friday night.

Fades: Stay away

2021 Fantasy Baseball: Week 19 Hitting Planner

Chicago White Sox

Opponents: OAK (4), TBR (3)

The White Sox just played in arguably the most electric game of the MLB season a few days ago, when Tim Anderson went from a back-and-forth theatrical Field of Dreams game against the Yankees. As their selection is healthier, almost every White Sox bat poses a threat to producing races and therefore value in fantasy baseball.

However, the upcoming seven-game slate for World Series-Warring Chicago teams is anything but easy. Since the All-Star break, athletics is among the two best pitchers in MLB in the ERA and knockout speed. As for the Rays, their highly talented pitching roster continues to rank in the top tier of the MLB, and the White Sox must play in Tampa Bay to face that staff. Since the All-Star break, the White Sox ranked in the top 6 in MLB as a road offense in OPS and wRC +.

Start stars with high traction like José Abreu and the blue-hot Eloy Jiménez but be careful with other White Sox; Depending on the league format and depth, do not be afraid to fade other members of that series.

Oakland Athletics

Opponents: CHW (4), SFG (3)

Speaking of Athletics hot pitching staff, what about their recent fleeting offenses lost Ramon Laureano to a PED suspension? Of course you have to start Matt Olson, one of the best power hitters in baseball in 2021. But what about other fantasy assets that have shown their highs and lows? Not excluding one of the season’s best trading deadline flags, Starling March, Athletics is worth a whole week fade for the upcoming slate.

Next week, Oakland will face the White Sox and Giants, who are both among the top 10 in MLB in ERA, xFIP and SIERA as pitchers. The athletics floor sees that they have problems getting in touch and producing opportunities to score points as an offensive unit. Show the athletic bats in the middle.

Washington citizens

Opponents: TOR (2), MIL (3)

Less than two years after winning a championship in history books, the nationalities are Ridin ‘S̶o̶t̶o̶ Solo as they have emptied the core, only holding on to the generation star Juan soto. There is no situation where a healthy Juan soto should fade. If you are in a fantasy league (non-DFS), Soto starts for you, no questions asked.

Other than him, what about borderline fantasy assets such as Josh bell, Victor robles, and Ryan zimmerman? In deeper leagues, even Yadiel Hernandez and Alcides Escobar? In weekly formats, the answer should be a no-brainer stay away.

Not only do the Nationals get just five games on the slate, but none of them should be a cakewalk in the tub of boxes. They start the series with a 2-match set against Toronto where they have to meet young bouncer starters Alek manoah (1.93 ERA, 9.2 K / 9 since the All-Star break) and José Berríos (3.86 ERA, 8.8 K / 9 as Blue Jay).

The Nationals then end the series with one of the best baseball pitching staffs when they visit Milwaukee. Brewers are scheduled to send both Freddy peralta and Corbin Burnes to the mound in that series. Do I need to say more? Cy Young talent and an elite stump to support it? Show the national bats you can consider next week – except Juan soto; if you bench him, you deserve to lose.

New York Mets

Opponents: SFG (3), LAD (4)

The Mets have been one of the most disappointing stories of the second half of the season, largely due to their collapsing offense. Injuries have not helped as fantasy stars either Francisco lindor and Javier Báez remain with relatively attempt IL timelines. As the lineup gets weaker, the fantasy-relevant pile joins Pete Alonso, Dominic Smith, Jonathan wants to, Jeff McNeil, Michael Conforto, Brandon nimmo, and James McCann see roadblocks already. The kicker? The seven-match matchups are coming up.

The Giants and Dodgers continue to dominate the mound as they both rank in the top 10 in MLB in ERA, xFIP and SIERA as pitching staffs since the All-Star break. The Mets have to face a good chunk of the meat from the teams’ teams as they line up to strike out against Kevin Gausman, Anthony DeSclafani, rising underrated star Logan web, Walker Buehler, and Max Scherzer.

Picks: Buy In

2021 Fantasy Baseball: Week 19 Hitting Planner

Milwaukee Brewers

Opponents: STL (3), WSH (3)

The Brewers, though rightly known for their cheat-throwing staff, are competitors in the World Series for a reason. One of them – their high upside offenses since trading with shortstop sentiment Willy Adames. Like Adames, new acquisition Eduardo Escobaruser Luis Urias, and veterans Christian Yelich, Avisail Garcia, Omar Narváez, and Kolten Wong all remain among the headlines in fantasy baseball.

Without a doubt, with these matchups, you should look into starting as many of these bats as possible, as they are working together to look up some spicy matchups for the next 6 games. Milwaukee begins the week against a pitcher staff in the St. Louis Cardinals who ranks mediocre overall on paper. Admittedly, they have to face elite talent starters Jack Flaherty in the series, but that should not scare the Brewers of the entire series, since this series is played in St. Louis. Since the All-Star Break, Milwaukee claims a .902 OPS and 139 wRC +, both MLB top numbers as a road team.

To end the week, things will no doubt get much better as they face a pitching staff from the Washington Nationals who are still one of the worst in baseball when Max Scherzer is no longer on the mound for them. Turn on the powerful brewers.

Arizona Diamondbacks

Opponents: PHI (3), COL (3)

Diamondbacks arguably claimed the best individual history in baseball despite their lack of relevance as a team when Tyler Gilbert threw a no-hitter in his first MLB start. But that’s not why you’re here. Arizona may cause some noise with the bats even in the coming week with 6 games. They start the week with the rising Philadelphia Phillies. At first glance, this is a scary thought considering that they are likely to send out NL Cy Young candidate Zack Wheeler to the mound in the series. But despite Wheeler’s staff, Philadelphia still ranks below average as a pitcher staff due to their shallow rotation elsewhere and weak, unreliable bullpen. This is where the Diamondbacks can do a lot of damage, starting with Game 1 in Arizona facing the latest acquisition Kyle Gibson, which has been significantly worse in 2021 as a road jug than at home.

To end the week, the Diamondbacks’ smash hit jackpot when they hit Coors Field against an already poor Rockies pitching staff likely to not send out their two best starters Germán Marquez and Austin gomber in the series. Start the underrated fantasy practitioner Pavin Smith which can be valuable in any format. Start veterans like David Peralta and Asdrubal Cabrera. Start the versatile skill of Josh rojas and elite upside of Ketel Marte. And in deep leagues, go after the catcher Carson kelly, card stop Nick Ahmed, first baseman Christian walker, or catcher / outfielder with a red-hot bat Daulton varsho.
