Masahiro Tanaka made his debut with the New York Yankees this afternoon and much to the chagrin of many detractors, it was quite impressive. Pitching in relief against the Philadelphia Phillies, he threw two scoreless innings, sending Cesar Hernandez, Ben Revere and Dominic Brown back to the bench via the strikeout. Granted, this is spring training and these hitters are seeing him for the first time, but New York fans (except the Mets) have to be pleased with the outcome.
“I understand that there’s going to be a lot of attention on the results, the numbers, that I do out there,” said Tanaka through an interpreter. “But for me, I’m not looking at it at all. I just want to go out there and first pitch my style and see how it is on the mound.”
