(Via the Seattle Seahwaks) – Renton, WA (August 14, 2013) – The Seahawks, Bing and Communities In Schools of Seattle (CISS) will host a school supplies drive at CenturyLink Field on Saturday, August 17 prior to the Seahawks versus Broncos game. Kickoff is 7 p.m. and gates open at 5 p.m.
Volunteers will be collecting supplies and cash donations at all gates and at the Pro Shop. All school supplies will be given to Seattle schools with the highest percentages of low income students. Last year, 28 local schools received school supplies from the drive.
“During these tough economic times, it can be a real stretch for families to provide backpacks and school supplies for their kids, especially if they have more than one school-aged child,” said Shira Rosen, executive director of Communities In School of Seattle. “We don’t want parents to choose between putting food on the table and buying school supplies. The simple act of giving a child the tools he or she needs to learn can help alleviate a lot of stress for families and teachers.”
The most needed school supplies include the following items:
Backpacks, binders, calculators, colored pencils, crayons, dictionaries, folders, glue, glue sticks, Kleenex, markers, notebook dividers, notebook paper, pencil sharpeners, pencils, pink erasers, rulers, scissors, scotch tape, and spiral and composition notebooks.
As part of Microsoft’s continued focus on helping improve technology in education, Bing is launching the Bing for Schools initiative. Schools that sign-up to participate in the program are provided an ad-free Bing search experience in the classroom, enhanced privacy protections, enforced strict filtering to help prevent adult content and specialized learning content to promote digital literacy. Bing will also donate tech and school supplies to CIS.
