Caps participate in hockey weekend

Hockey Weekend Across America is set to begin tomorrow and will run through the weekend. The Washington Capitals in conjunction with many area rinks in Washington D.C., Maryland and Virginia will participate. This great nationwide initiative began in 2008 and celebrates the game to expose it to new people.

Each day will have a specific theme:

Friday, February 15: ”Wear Your Favorite Hockey Jersey Day”. Sponsored by ShopUSAHockey.com, fans are encouraged to wear their Caps gear and tweet their pictures to @WashCaps and @CapsYouthHockey.

Saturday, February 16: ”Try Hockey for Free”. Boys and girls ages four to nine years old are invited to participate in clinics to help them learn more about the sport.

Sunday, February 17: ”Celebrate Local Hockey Heroes”. Hockey programs around the nation will be honoring their local hockey heroes. In Washington D.C., Caps forward Joel Ward will visit Fort Dupont Ice Arena on Monday. He will join Fort Dupont Hockey Director Neal Henderson in a practice led by Henderson.
