(Via the Orlando Magic) – Orlando, FL (February 6, 2013) – The Orlando Magic along with Chase celebrates February as Black History Month with a variety of activities, highlighted by the Magic’s Stroll-Off Competition on February 13 pregame (5:00 p.m.) at Fan Fest (on Church Street outside Amway Center). The Stroll-Off will feature members from the National Pan-Hellenic Council’s (NPHC) nine historically African-American, international Greek-lettered fraternities and sororities from some of the state’s public universities. This event recognizes NPHC and their organizations’ significance and contributions to black history. Each group will be judged for synchronization, creativity, complexity, showmanship and crowd reaction. The winning team will perform pregame on court of the Magic vs. Hawks contest and receive a trophy along with a $2,000 check.
On February 6 at the Magic vs. Clippers contest, the Magic’s Black History Month Celebration presented by Chase tips off with a halftime performance from The Distinguished Men of Brass from America’s Got Talent, player messages and a look back at the Magic and CHASE court refurbishment at Pine Hills Elementary. In addition, members of Chase employee group BOLD, Black Leadership Development Organization, will also be recognized on the court for their work in bolstering mentoring and professional development at Chase. Also, Magic Community Ambassador Bo Outlaw will help Chase unveil an interactive exhibit of Dr. Martin Luther King’s works that is touring the nation and will be on display at Evans High School during the week of February 11.
On February 19, the Magic will feature a pregame performance from the Hamilton Elementary Drum Line. The Magic is also proud sponsors/supporters of Orange County Black History Month Celebration & Gala and the Wells’Built Museum.
