On Thursday, Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis switched the red Donald Trump-style baseball cap for a protective face mask in his Twitter profile photo, following the unrest in the US capital.
Until Wednesday, the populist Czech billionaire wore a hat with the caption “SILNE CESKO” (Strong Czech Republic), reminiscent of “Make America Great Again” by Donald Trump.
But on Thursday, Babis appeared in the picture without a hood, after violence at the Capitol that left four people dead.
Once called “Czech Trump” because of his fortune, fourth in his country, according to Forbes magazine, Mr. Babis on Thursday called the attack on Capitol Hill “a unique attack on democracy”.
Donald Trump “kept repeating that the election was rigged and fraudulent, he stabbed that atmosphere and it was wrong,” said Babis, a food, chemical and media mogul.
The Czech Prime Minister also used the profile picture “SILNE CESKO” on his Facebook page, between May 2019, when he published it during the European election campaign, and September 2020.
Profile photos on both social networks now show Babis wearing a face mask with a Czech flag, in an apparent attempt to give courage to compatriots struggling with inclusion due to an increase in the number of Covid cases. 19.
