Saint-Léonard will represent Montreal at the baseball championships

The regional baseball series ended in early September over Quebec. Two teams from the Saint-Léonard Baseball Association have won their respective divisions and will represent the Montreal region at the next provincial championship.

In the Bantam A division, Saint-Léonard Bucs won the final of the Montreal tournament. They beat the Ahuntsic-Cartierville Panthères with a score of 11-7.

Saint-Léonard was sure to be part of the Midget B match, since the last match in this category was between two ASBL teams, Bucs and Reds. After a close match, it was the Reds who finally won with the position 9-8.

These good results confirm a year full of success for the Saint-Léonard Baseball Association, despite the challenges posed by COVID-19.

“There were many demands this season to keep our children safe. We divided the 12 players from each team into groups of three to respect the sanitary instructions. It was also necessary to disinfect the balls after each round,” explains Robert Arcaro, volunteer coordinator for ASBL.

The two teams will go to the provincial championship in Trois-Rivières at the end of September. They face the best teams from all the regional divisions in Quebec.

We hope that the excellent level shown by our youngsters will encourage new players from Saint-Léonard to sign up and join our teams.

Growing popularity

Although baseball is not as popular there as Soccer or hockey, the sport has gained popularity in recent years in Saint-Léonard.

“We have seen an increase in registrations, and ASBL has registered more than 400 members in all categories in 2021”, Mr. Arcaro is pleased.

With a focus on an inclusive and community approach, the association never ceases to amaze with its good results.

The sports club was established in 2000 and is aimed at young players aged 5 to 21 years, divided into two levels of difficulty by age category.

Rest assured, female teams like Diamants de Saint-Léonard are also formed every season in the league.

All results of the 2021 series and information on registrations are available on the ASBL website at
