Havana July 21 (RHC) Baseball players Héctor Velázquez and Sammy Solis have tested positive for Covid-19 and are isolated from the rest of the Mexican squad to compete in the Tokyo Olympics, as confirmed by the federation’s national discipline.
Following PCR studies conducted on Sunday, July 18, at the start of the concentration of the Mexican baseball selection, two asymptomatic positive cases of covid-19 were reported, according to a press release from the unit.
Vélasquez and Solis, players of Acereros de Monclova, are in quarantine in the rooms of the concentration hotel of the national ensemble, in accordance with the protocols.
The head of law enforcement is the Covid liaison officer for the Mexican delegation, Dr. José Luis de la Torre, and the baseball team doctor, Ernesto Fragoso.
The Mexican team conducted its first training session last Monday, in the afternoon in Asia, to adapt more quickly to the conditions at the seat of the competition where they will play in Group A against Japan and the Dominican Republic.
Due to the discovery of the virus in two of the members, the team has stopped the preparation pending all the results of medical examinations being revealed.
Mexico first qualified for the Olympic baseball tournament by finishing third in the Premier 12 knockout championship, where they defeated the United States in November 2019.
