Cumberland got off to a great start and then held the Northwestern 6-4 in a Heart O ‘North baseball game on Thursday, May 13 in the Iron River.
Beavers (6-4 overall, 4-4 SHE) jumped out with two runs at the top of the first, then one run at the fourth, two at the sixth and one at the seventh.

Cole Lahti and Sean Moroney had two hits and two RBIs each to lead the Tigers (5-5, 5-4), while Brennen Werner added one hit, two runs and one turn. Lahti and Werner handled the pitch duties, with Werner taking the loss despite allowing only two earned races in four innings.
Northwood / Solon Springs hit 15 hits and took advantage of six errors to win the Lakeland-East baseball game in a game when junior Gage Blaylock hit a grand slam.
Newcomer Kaden Corlett (2×2, 3R, RBI) and juniors Colby Latvala: (2×3, 2B, 2R, 2RBIs) and Syver Gulbrandsen (2 RBIs) also beat home races when NSS had four on the day.
After giving up a run at the top of the first, NSS scored nine at the bottom, before Cornell-Lake Holcombe responded with their own big slam in the second half.
“A lot of offense tonight,” coach Nate Ahlberg said.
Gulbrandsen went three rounds to get a pitch win while senior Ben Monson (2×2, 2B, 2R, 3RBIs) and novice Alex Slivensky (2B, 3RBIs) also had productive days.
“It was good to get some bats and some playing time for our bench boys,” said Ahlberg. “Isaiah Kastern, Justin Moore and Alex Slivensky all scored while Thomas Jarrell, Tarver Sellwood, Ben Dickenson and Brody Visger all scored races.”
Northwood / Solon Springs (7-1, 5-0) is at Spooner on Friday the 14th. May, and then on Webster Saturday, May 15th.
