The Presbyterian honored its Big South Conference 2021 baseball team championship with a ringing ceremony Saturday morning.

PC head coach Elton Pollack, who was also a prominent player during his collegiate career with Blue Hose, also received another kind of diamond.

PC officially named the baseball field after Pollack. It’s now called “Elton Pollack Field.”

“I can not put into words the range of emotions I felt this weekend, and the emotions I still feel today,” wrote on social media on Monday. “I want to thank everyone who attended the ring ceremony of the Big South Championship in 2021 and the naming / renaming of the baseball field to ‘Elton Pollock Field’. I am honored and grateful for the opportunity to lead and guide young men through the great game of baseball. Oh, but not only that – I’m honored to do it at Presbyterian College. ”

The naming opportunity was made possible with a generous gift from friends and former Blue Hose baseball players, PC officials said.

Bennett Nalley, who played under Pollock and led the volunteer fundraising effort, delivered the surprising announcement after the 2021 Big South Baseball Championship ring ceremony.

“Coaching Pollock’s leadership both on and off the field gives players the opportunity to succeed in life – both professionally and personally,” said Nalley. “He is the perfect Blue Hose, and we could not imagine anyone more deserving of this honor.”

The ceremony included a large number of former players, teammates, family members and friends of Pollack, a 1995 computer graduate.

Pollack has been the head coach of Blue Hose since the fall of 2004. He helped lead the team from Division II to Division I in 2008. The Blue Hose baseball team won its first Big South Championship and an automatic bid for the College World Series this past spring.

“I’m really humbled by this great honor,” Pollock said. “Special thanks to all my current and former players. Your commitment and dedication to PC Baseball is immeasurable.”
