Question: I did not like Pete Rose all his career, but he (should be) a Hall of Famer. Do you think he should get off the restricted list? Do you want to vote yes to place him in HOF? What percentage of the votes would he get during his first year, and how many years before he would reach it?

Answer: Rose has gone beyond the usual author’s vote, so he would fall under one of the time committees, which in the last poll is populated by many Hall of Famers. One of Rose’s potential boosters, Reds teammate Joe Morgan, has just died. You must also get 75% of these votes on the side of the Veterans Committee. I do not think that will happen to Pete, who ironically is better known for being outside the Hall of Fame than he would be for being in it.
