(Milwaukee) Sara Goodrum has been promoted to Minor League Batting Coordinator by Milwaukee Brewers.
“As far as we know, she would be the first” woman to have such a role in a Major Baseball organization, “said Tom Flanagan, vice president of minor league operations for the Brewers.
“Especially when the players come in now, they do not care if you are male or female,” Goodrum said on Thursday.
“If you can give them information and advice that will help them achieve their dream of making the big leagues, they will not care. ”
Goodrum’s official title with Brewers is the Batting Development Initiatives Coordinator, but in fact she will fill the role of Minor League Batting Coordinator.
Goodrum played softball for the University of Oregon from 2012-2015 and spent the last three seasons in the Brewers’ sports science department, working primarily on the offense.
She will work from Phoenix, where Brewers has its training complex.
The New York Yankees hired Rachel Balkovec as a minor league instructor in 2019. Last year, the San Francisco Giants made Alyssa Nakken the first instructor on the club’s Majors staff. Bianca Smith will begin working as an instructor in the Boston Red Sox minor leagues this season, becoming the first African-American to have a field position.
