Junior baseball: Karl Gélinas confirmed as manager of Diamants de Québec

It was an open secret, but Karl Gélinas is the new manager of the Quebec Diamonds, in the Quebec Elite Junior Baseball League (LBJÉQ).

Gélinas, who played pitcher for the Capitals of Quebec for 13 seasons (excluding 2020), officially succeeds Dominik Walsh, who left office after leading the junior club to four playoff championships in seven years. Walsh will remain involved as CEO.

Gélinas’ deal had become unofficial last week when news began circulating in the media. He will continue his role with the Canadian Baseball Academy in Montreal.

“We are very pleased with this duo, let’s say it came together a little bit,” Diamonds president Charles Demers said. I wanted to keep the culture of the organization and maintain a certain stability. Then it also had to match for the coach [d’avoir Walsh comme directeur général]. “

Demers, who is also the CEO of Capitals, has also indicated that Gélinas will serve as a pitching instructor for the professional club of the Independent Frontier League. At this point, the former Los Angeles Angels prospect (then Anaheim) is not expected to return to the mound due to different rules regarding the number of veterans per team in Frontier. Gélinas holds the record for most victories in the organization’s history with 85.
