George Clooney will direct an adaptation of Calico Joe, a John Grisham novel set in a professional baseball world. The actor will also produce the film with partner Grant Heslov via their production company Smokehouse Pictures, but also the company Gray Water Park Productions by Bob Dylan.

“John wrote a great story, and having the chance to work with Bob to adapt it to the screen is just amazing,” George Clooney and Grant Heslov said in a joint statement.

Calico Joe was published in 2012 and tells the story of a promising young player whose career ends due to a playing field in 1970. The plot was inspired by the true story of player Ray Chapman who was killed by a throw in 1920, but also by the experience of the author who himself was a player in his youth. “George and Grant see in the book what I see in it as well – a powerful story that will resonate with both young and old. People from all walks of life will be able to relate to it, “said Bob Dylan for his part.

ZQ Entertainment’s Ara Keshishian and Petr Jakl finance the script, and they do not hide the joy of working with George Clooney and Bob Dylan. “The caliber of talent involved and the quality of John Grisham’s incredible book represent exactly the kind of content we seek to develop and produce,” they said in a statement. Smokehouse’s track record speaks for itself, and we look forward to working with them and the legendary Bob Dylan to bring this story to life. “
